condensation-algorithmic-version

Statement

An algorithmic version of condensation, with description length in place of entropy, carries a correspondence theorem, directly or once variable-cost symbols remove its trouble with single events.

Source

Demski's LessWrong posts "Condensation" (2025-11-09) and "Condensation & Relevance" (2026-01-23): the first describes the algorithmic version with latent strings; the second post's section on variable-cost symbols argues that algorithmic condensation works poorly on single coin flips, proposes variable-cost symbols to rescue it, and says the best way to work this version out fully is unclear.

Notes

A mid-level plan of Stage 4, an or over the direct algorithmic version and the variable-cost rescue.
