Statement
The statement of legitimacy differs between formalisms: in the Deference Done Better setting it is defined with Total Trust, and in the logical-induction setting the translated Total Trust is equivalent to Reflection and several other principles, with a family resemblance across settings rather than one statement.
Source
projects/deference/corrigibility-note-dump-2026-10-01/position-statement-v2.md, section 1.5, the maintainer: "legitimacy can be defined with total trust in the ddb setting. In the LI setting of the li-deference work, the translated total trust is equivalent to reflection and several other principles. In other settings there may be other circumstances. There is a clear family resemblance here, but the exact statement can differ from formalism to formalism."
Notes
The maintainer's position statement; it is the licence for treating the LI-register gate and the public thick/thin theory as two statements of one concept (legit-two-theories-bridge) rather than as rivals. The DDB form is formalized on finite frames; the LI form is the plan legit-gated-trust-li.
