Statement

The li-deference framework models only the AI's outwardly expressed beliefs, forced by training into the humans' language, so it does not model ontology mismatch between humans and AIs or ontology-shift problems.

Source

projects/deference/note-dump-2026-08-11/notes/li-deference.md, Some other open questions, Ontology mismatches between humans and AIs (human-written by the maintainer): "Since I'm only doing outer-alignment here, the "beliefs" of the AI are only its outwardly-expressed beliefs, which are forced by the training to be expressed in the same language as the humans use. This does not model deep problems of ontology mismatch between humans and AIs, nor does it have much to say about ontology-shift problems."

Notes

The legitimacy-reasons branch lists this open question of li-deference.md and links it to Stages 4–6; this programme files it. It is the strongest reason in the maintainer's own text for the abstraction arc to bear on the li-deference cluster: relaxing the shared-language assumption runs through interpreting-a-belief-haver and dynamics-of-theories (the filing session's reading). A picture for the li-trust branch's improvement claim on the li-deference collapse is handed to that branch in the merge notes.
