Common brief for every worker in the 2026-09-05 integrity research batch
You are one of five isolated research workers dispatched by an orchestrator against A-M-Berns/alignment-workspace at main = 5ff9539b44debc464128e6a1921ef1690f7b6487. You are running in your own git worktree (the Agent tool created it from that main); verify with git log --oneline -1 and record any difference in your report rather than forcing it. Work only inside your worktree directory. Never cd into the main checkout or another worktree.

Shared orientation (hold with the stated status)
Fairly settled: legitimacy is a property of cognitive evolution, not certification of a state. The proof-relevant object is a history segment H_{m:n}; the consumer-facing object is likely an endpoint relation H_m ⪯_leg H_n witnessed by a legitimate segment. Declared normative scope is application-relative. Integrity (did the trajectory faithfully preserve and account for what entered it?) is distinct from Non-Capture (could the process improperly determine what was able to enter, challenge, or evaluate it?). Non-Capture and counterfactual practical/value semantics are billed to external theories: the generic theory specifies the certificate and proves what follows.
Working hypothesis to TEST, not doctrine: Trajectory Integrity ⇒ Diachronic Answerability. Do not assume it by definition.
Settlement distinction to test: an external settlement item s ∈ SetView(H_n) is an authenticated input through the declared trusted settlement boundary. The internal reasoner separately judges Closes(H_n, s, α) — by the rules/reasons legitimately in force at H_n, s suffices to close obligation α. A discharge is backed by (1) authenticated availability of s, (2) an internally valid Closes certificate, (3) whatever authority/provenance Integrity requires. Settlement items do not arrive typed as "settles α"; they may stay immutable while their judged relevance changes; a later reasoner may find an earlier Closes defective, and the response is probably a new reopening/reconsideration obligation, not retroactive rewriting. The settlement trust boundary is domain-relative; do not force one universal settlement ontology.
Isolation
You do not know what the other four workers are doing beyond their one-line lane names (A: constructive Integrity theory; B: Integrity adversary / laundering audit; C: Non-Capture certificate minimization; D: practical-semantics certificate minimization; E: end-to-end Normative Inductor gap audit). Do not coordinate with them, do not read other worktrees, and do not adopt definitions you have not derived or cited from main.

Machine discipline (several agents share one 24 GB, 10-core Mac)
- Before any Lean build or other long job run
~/.claude/scripts/resource-guard.sh check; if it exits non-zero run~/.claude/scripts/resource-guard.sh wait 900and try again. - **Never call

ln -s /Users/anson/Projects/alignment-workspace/lean/.lake lean/.lake(run from your worktree root). That path is git-ignored; confirmgit status --shortdoes not listlean/.lakeafterwards. Do not copy the cache and do not runlake exe cache get. - Python is cheap; run only your own
tests/run.pypluspython3 tests/name_lint.py,python3 tests/dead_pointers.py, andpython3 tests/untracked_pointers.pyat the end. Do not run the repository-widepython3 tests/run.pymore than once, at the end. - If the guard keeps reporting LOADED, wait rather than pushing through, and say so in the report.
Evidence discipline
Label every result exactly one of: lean-proved (kernel-checked, axioms audited), exact-witness (a finite instance computed in exact rationals, which is NOT a proof of a general statement), paper-derived, proposed definition/interface, ambient assumption, open. A finite fixture pins an instance; never write "verified" for a general theorem it only instantiates. Necessity witnesses for hypotheses where feasible; where not feasible, say so.
Prose discipline
Dry, exact, short. Definitions, statements, proofs or proof sketches, countermodels, what is not shown. No roadmap prose, no philosophical positioning beyond what the result means for the question under test, no praise of your own care. Your REPORT should be the length the content needs, typically 100–250 lines. The README.md verdict is one UPPER-CASE-HYPHENATED-VERDICT — one-sentence gloss line followed by a reading order.
Finish

Do NOT open a pull request and do NOT merge anything. - Your final message to the orchestrator: the branch name and head SHA; the round directory path; the verdict line; then a compact structured summary (at most ~60 lines) of your definitions, theorems with evidence labels, countermodels, and open questions — written so a reader who has not opened your files can cross-examine it. Include verbatim the two or three definitions another worker would need in order to attack them.
Your lane: Agent D — practical / counterfactual semantics certificate minimization
Round name: 2026-09-05-practical-certificate. Branch: round/2026-09-05-practical-certificate.
You are an interface-minimization worker. Do not solve general counterfactual identification.
Problem: determine the weakest practical-semantics certificate the abstract Normative Induction theorem needs, and which factorizations are merely convenient realizations.
The public endpoint is, schematically, PracticalCert(e, s) : E[ℓ_e(Y_s)] ≤ M_es · d_s + ε_es — the anchored loss of exposure e under the response realized at service occurrence s is controlled by the public operative defect d_s with per-edge constants. Do not assume scalar counterfactual value vectors are the definition of practical semantics.
The Normative Inductor round's value-correspondence path is one sufficient factorization: authenticated counterfactual semantics → value calibration/ambiguity (V_es, v*_es, ζ_es) → randomized η-approximate decision rule → decision regret ≤ 2d_s + 2ζ_es + η_s → anchored response adequacy (L_es, ε^resp_es) → M_es = 2L_es, ε_es = L_es(2ζ_es + η_s) + ε^resp_es. Read that round's PRESENTATION_AND_VALUE_SEMANTICS.md §§4–8, NORMATIVE_INDUCTOR_REALIZATION.md §6 and §13, and the Lean lemmas approximate_argmax_transfer, randomized_approximate_argmax_transfer, calibration_through_value_correspondence, practical_response_compose in lean/Workspace/Normativity/Contrib/NormativeInductor.lean.
Test whether that factorization is minimal; unnecessarily strong; appropriate only for utility-like domains. Find other direct sufficient routes if natural — especially for procedural, constraint-like, rights-like, or non-scalar obligations (e.g. an obligation whose adequate response is "produce a receipt of kind X within H steps", or "do not take actions in a forbidden set", where no value vector is the natural object). For each route state the certificate it needs from an external theory and prove (paper, plus Lean where the step is algebra) that it yields PracticalCert.
Press on joint practical-response compatibility: one service occurrence s produces one realized response distribution Π_s; if several exposures e are matched to s, each edge certificate must hold against that same Π_s. Characterize the weakest useful bundle-level or edge-level condition ensuring this. Exhibit, as an exact fixture, two exposures inside one jointly feasible region K_s with no common adequate response. Classify the legitimate outcomes of incompatibility — distinct service contexts; upstream licensed adjudication/aggregation; a common adequate response; residual mass — and state, for each, exactly what the transport plan / admissible-edge relation must record so the Progress bound's accounting stays honest. Do not let joint price-space feasibility stand in for practical compatibility.
Deliverables: CERTIFICATE.md (the minimal public certificate and what it quantifies over), FACTORIZATIONS.md (the value-correspondence route and at least one non-scalar route, each with its external bill), NECESSITY.md (counterexamples showing each retained clause is needed and which strengthenings are unnecessary), JOINT_COMPATIBILITY.md, THEOREMS.md with evidence labels, exact fixtures under src/ + tests/run.py, Lean algebra in a new file / namespace if any step is naturally algebraic (import NormativeInductor rather than restating its lemmas), REPORT.md. Relate every constant to the existing M_es, ε_es of the realization round.

Report
DIRECT-EDGE-CERTIFICATE-IS-MINIMAL — Normative Induction needs only an anchored affine loss bound against the one response distribution actually realized at each service occurrence; value correspondence and adequate sets are sufficient, non-equivalent realizations.
Finding
The theorem-facing practical-semantics object is the per-edge inequality
PracticalCert(e, s, Pi_s; M_es, epsilon_es) :⇔
Lambda_es(Pi_s) <= M_es * d_s + epsilon_es.
Lambda_es is the anchored loss functional authenticated for exposure e and service occurrence s; Pi_s is the one response distribution actually realized at s. The abstract Progress calculation uses only this inequality, nonnegative transport mass, its column-amplification condition on M_es, the transported error sum for epsilon_es, and the residual charge. It does not require scalar values, a policy argmax, an adequate set, or response-space convexity.
This minimality is relative to the contract's edge-local admissibility design. An opaque aggregate bound on the whole transport plan would be logically weaker, but would remove local edge audit, column amplification, and explicit residual accounting.
For a bundle E_s, the weakest useful compatibility condition is
JointPracticalAdequacy(s, E_s, Pi_s) :⇔
for every e in E_s,
Lambda_es(Pi_s) <= M_es * d_s + epsilon_es.
The response receipt is shared. The existing admissible-edge relation can implement this by requiring every positive transport edge (e,s) to cite and pass its certificate against responseReceipt(s). Edgewise existence with different response witnesses is insufficient.
The end-to-end finite Progress theorem exposes one further adapter obligation because its headline loss is ell(e) while edge certificates bound Lambda_es(Pi_s). For every evaluated exposure require 0<=ell(e)<=D; for every positive transport edge require ell(e)<=Lambda_es(Pi_s). This belongs to the evaluation/transport adapter, not PracticalCert. headline_loss_from_edge_losses Lean-proves that these premises bound headline loss by transported edge loss plus the existing D r_N charge. CROSS_RESPONSE_E.md gives the typing and explains why equality and an edge-indexed redesign are unnecessary.
Factorizations
The landed value-correspondence route remains sufficient. Its exact public constants are
\[ M_{es}=2L_{es},\qquad \epsilon_{es}=L_{es}(2\zeta_{es}+\eta_s) +\epsilon^{resp}_{es}. \]
It is not minimal. The new one-sided Lean transfer drops two-sided calibration errors that the approximate-argmax proof never uses. More fundamentally, a non-scalar adequate-set route assumes bounded anchored loss, loss at most epsilon_ad on A_es, and
\[ \Pi_s(Q_s\setminus A_{es})\le\kappa_{es}d_s+\theta_{es}. \]
It gives
\[ M_{es}=D_{es}\kappa_{es},\qquad \epsilon_{es}=\epsilon^{ad}{es}+D{es}\theta_{es}. \]
This directly types receipt, deadline, forbidden-action, and proof-carrying constraint responses without declaring a scalar counterfactual value vector. Each route has a different external bill. Neither route derives causal/evaluation validity from the market.
Joint counterexample and accounting
The exact fixture uses the feasible price region K_s={(1,1)} and responses {a,b,c}. Exposure e1 has loss (0,1,1); e2 has loss (1,0,1). Each has a zero-loss response, but no single distribution has loss below 1/2 on both. Lean proves that the two expected losses sum to at least one and checks an attaining half mixture. Exact Python evaluates the corresponding finite dual certificate.
The four honest outcomes are fully typed:
- Distinct service contexts create distinct occurrence identities and transport columns, each with its own response receipt.
- Licensed adjudication records its authority and an edge-specific semantic transport back to every old anchor still charged to the service.
- A common adequate response gives every supported edge a certificate against the same receipt, retaining edge-specific constants.
- Uncertified exposure mass is omitted from transport and charged through
D r_N.
An exact accounting witness shows that falsely charging both incompatible edges to response a realizes matched loss 1/2 against a claimed bound zero. Leaving e2 residual instead gives both sides 1/2.
Checked results
The new Lean module proves proxy composition, adequate-set composition, one-sided deterministic and randomized approximate-argmax transfer, the zero-defect bundle characterization, a disjoint-adequate-set lower bound, shared-coordinate disagreement, the forbidden-optimum necessity fact, a two-set union bound, and the headline-to-edge transport summation. It includes concrete inhabitation witnesses and #print axioms for every declaration.
The exact-rational checker covers both factorizations, all constant identities, strict weakening of two-sided calibration, the value-membership non-necessity instance, the forbidden-optimum failure, crossing constants, practical/price feasibility separation, randomization, joint infeasibility, dishonest column accounting, residual accounting, and necessity of each adequate-set clause.
Evidence labels and theorem boundaries are in THEOREMS.md. Exact fixtures are not general proofs.
Deviations
The prompt's expected base is exactly the checked-out base 5ff9539b44debc464128e6a1921ef1690f7b6487; there is no base deviation.
python3 -m checkers.workspace_state --json exits nonzero before this round's edits because state/views/NAMING_AUDIT.md is stale. That generated view is outside this worker's write scope, so the defect is reported here and left for synthesis rather than worked around.
The prompt requests tests/run.py; the resumed draft contained only tests/test_certificate.py. This round adds the required self-contained runner.
The repository-wide python3 tests/run.py reaches checkers.wiki_state_bindings --self-test and fails because that self-test invokes the same invalid workspace-state emission. The round-local 20 tests, Lean build, name_lint.py, dead_pointers.py, and post-commit untracked_pointers.py pass. The temporary ignored lean/.lake cache link was unlinked before the pointer gate, because the gate correctly refuses a live path that is not tracked.
What this does not establish
- No practical-semantics theory is constructed for a deployed ecology.
- No result authenticates
Lambda_es, a response kernel, a causal intervention, an evaluator, or a receipt; those are ambient premises. - No scalar value is identified from Logical Induction prices or region membership.
- No general counterfactual-identification theorem is attempted.
- The adequate-set route is one sufficient non-scalar route, not a complete classification of procedural or rights-like semantics.
- The finite Farkas-style witness is sufficient for the displayed infeasibility fixtures; completeness is not shown.
- The direct endpoint's status is a proposed interface, not a registered claim.
- No theorem says Integrity, settlement, or Non-Capture supplies the external practical-semantics bill.
- No full Normative Inductor theorem or general Progress theorem is newly proved.
- Joint compatibility is not supplied by price-space feasibility.
Proposed filings
- Workspace friction: regenerate
